Vaniqa works by blocking the activity of an enzyme in hair follicles called ornithine decarboxylase. This enzyme is involved in hair growth, and reducing its activity slows the rate at which hair appears on the face.

Active ingredient: Eflornithine hydrochloride 11.5% (as eflornithine hydrochloride monohydrate). Excipients: cetostearyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, mineral oil, macrogol stearate, dimethicone, glycerol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), sodium hydroxide, water, and others listed in the patient leaflet.

Common side effects include skin redness, stinging, tingling, rash, or acne. In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur. Avoid using on broken or irritated skin. Not for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
