Essential Information

What is Priligy?
Priligy is the first tablet designed for men dealing with premature ejaculation. It's a type of medication known as an SSRI, or selective serotonin receptor inhibitor. Unlike other SSRIs that are sometimes used off-label for premature ejaculation, Priligy is specifically prescribed for this condition. Simply take it before sexual activity to help delay orgasm.
How does Priligy work?
Priligy contains dapoxetine as its main ingredient. This is a type of treatment called a selective serotonin uptake inhibitor, or SSRI. SSRIs work by reducing the amount of serotonin that is reabsorbed by serotonin transporters, which boosts its transmission throughout your body. Since serotonin plays a key role in controlling ejaculation, having more of it should help you last longer.
What doses does Priligy come in?
Priligy is available in 30mg or 60mg doses. Studies have shown that both doses are highly effective in treating PE. Men taking Priligy took significantly longer to ejaculate during intercourse compared to those taking a placebo.
Does Priligy work?
A study on dapoxetine, the active ingredient in Priligy, examined how well men felt they could control ejaculation and their satisfaction with the medication. The effectiveness was assessed by looking at the men's 'perceived control' over ejaculation and the increase in 'ejaculatory latency time', which is the time it took to reach climax, measured with a stopwatch.
Among the men for whom the treatment was effective, 67% reported having better or much better control over when they climaxed, and 74% rated their satisfaction with intercourse as 'good' or 'very good'.

Key Points

- Priligy (dapoxetine) works by boosting serotonin levels, which helps improve control over ejaculation.
- Clinical studies indicate that Priligy greatly enhances control over ejaculation.
- You should take it 1 to 3 hours before engaging in sexual activity.

FAQs

Q: Priligy and Viagra: can I take them together?
Q: Should I use EMLA cream or Priligy?
EMLA numbing cream and Priligy are both options for treating premature ejaculation. Additionally, there are anaesthetic sprays such as Fortacin. Your choice, along with your medical history, will guide you and your doctor in selecting the best option for you.
If you prefer the ease of taking a pill, Priligy might be a good choice for you. On the other hand, Fortacin spray works quickly and could be more suitable. There are also other options used off-label, such as different SSRIs, or numbing creams and sprays. It's best to discuss with your doctor to find out which treatment is right for you.

Usage Instructions

How to take Priligy
Taking Priligy is easy and convenient. Simply take a Priligy tablet between one and three hours before you have sex and you’re good to go. You can take Priligy with or without food. It’s recommended that you take it with a full glass of water to prevent a bitter taste in your mouth. Priligy isn’t appropriate for women, or people older than 65.
Priligy 30mg or 60mg: which dose should I take?
When you first start taking Priligy, your doctor will prescribe a 30mg dose. If you find it isn't helping you last as long as you'd like, and you're tolerating it well, your doctor can increase the dose to 60mg.
How long does it take for Priligy to work?
After taking your Priligy tablet, you should start to feel its effects within an hour. The medication reaches its peak in your system between one to two hours after taking it, providing the most benefit for up to three hours.
What should I do if I make a mistake taking Priligy?
You should only take one dose of Priligy each day, as advised by your clinician. If you accidentally take more tablets than recommended, please inform your pharmacist. You may experience side effects such as severe drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, a tremor, agitation, or dizziness.
