Essential Information

What is Duac gel?
Duac gel is an antibiotic treatment suitable for adults and teenagers aged 12 and over. It's effective for treating mild to moderate acne.
Duac gel is used to treat mild acne vulgaris, including both inflammatory and non-inflammatory spots, on any external part of the body. However, you should avoid getting it in your mouth, eyes, on your lips, or on broken or irritated skin. Apply it to the skin once a day in the evening.
How does Duac gel work?
Acne occurs when too many chemicals block the pores, leading to blackheads. Duac gel helps by eliminating the bacteria that cause acne.
Duac gel includes two active components: Clindamycin, which is an antibiotic, and Benzoyl Peroxide. Clindamycin works as a topical antibiotic to help stop acne by eliminating the bacteria that thrive on the oil produced by the skin's sebaceous glands.
The second active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide, is a keratolytic. This means it helps to break down the top layer of skin, which reduces blackheads and whiteheads and helps prevent more breakouts. Using clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide together is a well-proven and effective method for treating moderately severe acne.
What doses of Duac gel are there?
Duac gel comes in two different strengths: 10 mg/g + 30 mg/g and 10 mg/g + 50 mg/g. Both contain 10 mg/g of clindamycin, but the amount of benzoyl peroxide varies. Choosing the right strength depends on how severe your acne is, and one of our clinicians can help guide you in making this choice.

FAQs

Q: How is Duac Gel different from other treatments for acne?
Duac Gel is a combination medicine, which means it contains several key ingredients that effectively tackle acne. Because of this mix of active ingredients, it works differently from other gel-based acne treatments that might use different active components or antibiotics. It's worth noting that not all acne treatments include antibiotics, but Duac Gel does use Clindamycin, which stops the growth of bacteria that cause acne.
Q: Is Duac Gel similar to any other treatments?
Duac gel is quite similar to other treatments. It contains Clindamycin and Benzoyl Peroxide as its active ingredients, which are also present in other acne treatments. The main difference is the company that makes it.
Q: Which dose of Duac Gel should I use?
The dose for your treatment will be based on the severity of your acne. Our clinician is available to suggest the best dose for your particular situation. Typically, we advise beginning with a lower dose, and our clinician will keep an eye on your progress and adjust your dose if necessary.
Q: Do I need a prescription for Duac Gel?
Duac gel is only available with a prescription because it's crucial to provide the correct dose tailored to your needs. Our clinician will be available to assist you in making an informed choice about the best prescription plan for you.

How long does it take Duac gel to work?
How quickly Duac gel works can vary based on how severe your acne is and the dose you're using. Typically, you might start to see a noticeable change in about 2 to 5 weeks. If you don't notice any improvement after around 6 weeks, it's a good idea to get in touch with our clinician to talk about other treatment options. Remember, you shouldn't use Duac gel for more than 12 weeks.
What should I do if I make a mistake when using Duac gel?
It's crucial to stick to the instructions for using Duac gel and follow your prescriber's advice to avoid any mishaps. If you do make a mistake, like forgetting to apply the gel or using too much, you can correct it by simply using it as normal next time. If you apply too much and experience skin irritation or peeling, just reduce the amount you use. This shouldn't affect your treatment in the long run.
