What is Duac gel?
Duac gel is an antibiotic treatment suitable for adults and teenagers aged 12 and over. It's effective for treating mild to moderate acne.
Duac gel is used to treat mild acne vulgaris, including both inflammatory and non-inflammatory spots, on any external part of the body. However, you should avoid getting it in your mouth, eyes, on your lips, or on broken or irritated skin. Apply it to the skin once a day in the evening.
How does Duac gel work?
Acne occurs when too many chemicals block the pores, leading to blackheads. Duac gel helps by eliminating the bacteria that cause acne.
Duac gel includes two active components: Clindamycin, which is an antibiotic, and Benzoyl Peroxide. Clindamycin works as a topical antibiotic to help stop acne by eliminating the bacteria that thrive on the oil produced by the skin's sebaceous glands.
The second active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide, is a keratolytic. This means it helps to break down the top layer of skin, which reduces blackheads and whiteheads and helps prevent more breakouts. Using clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide together is a well-proven and effective method for treating moderately severe acne.
What doses of Duac gel are there?
Duac gel comes in two different strengths: 10 mg/g + 30 mg/g and 10 mg/g + 50 mg/g. Both contain 10 mg/g of clindamycin, but the amount of benzoyl peroxide varies. Choosing the right strength depends on how severe your acne is, and one of our clinicians can help guide you in making this choice.
